Project Description

Adapted and renovated from an existing railway freight station, this downtown Detroit academic center contained many facilities and resources for faculty and staff: a library/learning resource center, student study area, classrooms, laboratories, faculty and regional administrative offices, bookstores, and a child care center for staff and students.

A central feature of this project was the Student Commons, which was not originally in the program, but was developed from “found” space captured by incorporating existing structures into the new facility. SDG received an Outstanding Achievement Award for Building Design & Construction from the Engineering Society of Detroit for the converted building.
