Project Description

The museum was designed as a multi-functional community gathering space with exhibition areas, a fully-equipped 300-seat theater, classroom, educational spaces, meeting and event facilities and a restaurant. All the room surround a central 100-foot diameter rotunda crowned by a glazed dome that remains as an iconic feature of this structure. The design and detailing of the building combine African and American cultural themes, while the dome, building columns, rotunda, motifs, and door hardware all follow traditional African designs.
